How to Secure Your Computer
A few weeks ago I posted Doug Partridge's articles "Is Your Web Browser Putting You at Risk?" and "Paranoia, or Are Public Internet Computers Dangerous?", both can be found under Topic Security.

For the speed readers under us I extracted the main points from their Web site, what follows are mostly extracts from the Web site, Doug Partridge gave  permission to use their words:

The eBook contains a step-by-step Internet Security Guide for ordinary people to protect Windows computer from menaces like Spyware, Hackers, Viruses, and Identity Thieves using FREE tools. Written to make it easy for anyone to understand, especially non-technical people
      -   Tells the story when going from dial-up to "always on" broadband connection instead of getting faster the computer's anti-virus protection failed, it got slower, displaying pop-ups, strange icons, and soon became unusable, had to be trashed, replaced by a new one and back to dial-up.
      -   cites the SANS Institute (a security research group) that puts the "survival time" of an unprotected Windows XP computer on the Internet at 16 minutes, being compromised by Malware, Trojans, Worms, Viruses, Adware, and Spyware.
      -   States that "Effective security precautions requires more than just having an anti-virus program, even more than a firewall"
      -   Advises to arm your computer against Hackers, Malware, Spyware, Adware, Viruses, Online identity theft.
      -   bits from Testimonials: "explains not just what steps to take, but how and why they work", "easy to read and very understandable", "all these safeguards are available for free or at a very reasonable price"
