Site NewsI finally broke down and reset my display to 1024x768, which is said to be the current most popular size. This makes the text size really small when it's set to a size that appears just right in my former usual screen size setting of 800x600. So I reset the text size to "large text", which is 125% according to the settings box. This looks close to how I had it set, for most things. I'm on IE6, Win98, by the way.

So I tool around some of my sites to check out the differences. Stopping by here I notice that the text size is pretty small. Now I see the effect of having it set in pixel sizes vs percent, ems, or even points, which all resize somewhat relative to the screen font.

I've been practicing with CSS over at my bantychick.com site, and over there things appear the same in most cases. Almost everything there is set in ems.

Now I see a project in converting this site to relative font sizes. I apologize to those who have been patiently trying to view this site in IE at a higher resolution with the text sized in the way it has been. Sorry, but although I do usually do a quick test with the resolution set higher, I was not aware of the true effect until I set my computer fully to this resolution. Now I see that a lot of the text could be pretty hard to read for those with less-than-perfect eyesight, and is small in any case. In the directory editor area, some of the text is small, and some is way bigger than the rest. At my former settings, it was all well balanced and easy to read.

To whom it may concern, thanks for putting up with this. I will try to get these things adjusted as soon as possible.

My Comments on this text size bit

I might have my text settings on my box wrong or something, but nothing looks right at most places using this higher resolution. I'm starting to think this sucks and that I was better off at 600x800. What's the point anyways, the monitor is the same size no matter how you set the resolution? Gees, all the graphics are smaller, text is either too small or too big, sidebars are shrunk to 2/3 the size, what's the good of it?

I've been on the web almost full time for about 7 years now, and all seemed fine until I reset my display to the "popular" setting. Now all is a mess. Can you majority of other web surfers using resolution over 1000 see anything normally? Or I guess normal is normal relative to what we have seen. It's not supposed to be this hard?

Even msn.com has their inside pages designed for 600x800.

Personally I've never had a problem with the higher setting.  If the text is too small I increase it, though it rarely is.  I did notice when I switched over (from the old setting) was that everything was smaller but I got used to it.  And now everything fits onto the one screen (widthwise) without having to side scroll all the time (which I hated doing).

Everything else is still the same though, the boxes etc.  When I notice huge programming differences/problems it's always a browser issue (FireFox versus IE) versus a screen resolution problem.
