HowTo get a Gmail account without an invitation
Published on 09/18/05 at 21:24:05 GMT by Jos
This was contributed by Bacchus of the WebAPP project. I haven't tested it personally, but I'm sure there are those who would like to.
This is a quote from his post in the WebAPP chit-chat forum:
HowTo get a Gmail account without an invitation:
1. Go to gmail.com.
2. Choose "Forgot your password".
3. Write a fictive email address. e.g. "abcdef@fedcba.com". Click "Submit".
4. Write the security word and click "Submit".
5. Now you should get this message:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are no accounts in our system with the E-mail address abcdef@fedcba.com which you entered. If you spelled the address incorrectly or entered the wrong address, please click here to try again.
If your address is correct, then you may not have finished registering an account with Google, even if you currently use some of our services. Please click here to quickly finish registering.
If you are unable to remember the E-mail address for your account, please click here. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here you should click the link in the middle: "Please click here to quickly finish registering".
6. Enter your email address, the password you want and the securityword. Then you click on "Create my account".
Soon you will receive a verification email and you should be able to activate your new Gmail account.

Gmail is too creepy

I didn't know you needed an invitation to get a Gmail account. I don't understand that at all. I've seen a few sign-up links on google (especially the last few days) to get a Gmail account. I did, however, run across this a couple days ago. http://www.gmail-is-too-creepy.com/ ...Google offers more storage for your email than other Internet service providers that we know about. The powerful searching encourages account holders to never delete anything. It takes three clicks to put a message into the trash, and more effort to delete this message. It's much easier to "archive" the message, or just leave it in the inbox and let the powerful searching keep track of it. Google admits that even deleted messages will remain on their system, and may also be accessible internally at Google, for an indefinite period of time. For a few months they showed a note saying that messages left in the trash folder for 30 days would be automatically deleted, but many users reported that this never happened. Now that message, which is still present for the spam folder, is gone from the trash folder. Google wants very much to get to know you better.
