Sure, I need help. Can you help me? I think there are just too many things to learn all at once. I just gotten into perl's regex. When I have more time, I'll try to figure it all out. When I conquer the world, you can all help rule it.

I came to sitelibrary off my referal list. Seems like a neat kind of place.

photodrone, nice to meet ya. I hate to admit it around here, but the questions I quoted are about the same as those I've been wondering about. You are right about there being way too much to learn, even given any amount of time. Sounds like I'm about where you are in Perl, too, maybe. Most of my Perl experimentation has been with the WebAPPs like this one and a couple of others. I've found it hard to learn from documentation and tutorials, and easier by doing and testing. The error messages I get seem to make a more permanent impact than do directions

But the others here know way more than I do about most of these things.

Glad to see you here at the site. This site is almost brand new. We have high hopes for it and lots of plans and ideas.

It's nice to meet another struggling web hacker. It's just a hobby for me. Most of the forums/groups I'm in are full of geek-gods. They don't understand where I'm coming from most of the time. But that's ok. I learn, like you say, "doing and testing"  Hey, I like this site. I'm glad to be here in the beginning. Maybe I can help it grow...

Maybe we should start a forum topic about trackback, ping, xml, rss, atom, and such. I just delved a little into xml about a week or two ago to make the crawler page for this portal. Have you seen Wiki?

 starting with ping, trackback etc

I see that ppp started with some groundwork at
http://bantychicken.com/cgi-bin/fotw/wiki/fotwwiki.pl?Ppp/TrackBack

My idea is to cover different aspects including MSDOS(Windows) and Unix commands, but also e.g. ping on IRC.
Intended audience: newbie with some technical leanings.

We can cover English and German, and do some start with Dutch and French.
