 Oh
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:04:12 GMT by ppp
Can Billy Boy pull that one off?

 Yes
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:05:04 GMT by J Fischer
Yes, he can. Why not ?

 Hmm
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:06:54 GMT by ppp
It is a lot of money, Norbert did not quote correctly:  "... Google.com And Yahoo.com For 170 Billion"

 small billion
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:07:26 GMT by J Fischer
I think this are only small billion.

 small billions?
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:08:02 GMT by ppp
What do you mean?

 American
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:08:36 GMT by J Fischer
billions

 Hmm
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:08:58 GMT by ppp
How much is that?

 In the US
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:09:54 GMT by J Fischer
In the US one billion is only one thousand millions

 170 billions
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:10:37 GMT by ppp
170 billions that is then 170 000 000 000. Right? A lot of money.

 alexa:

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?q=&url=google.com
says reach is 200 000
and yahoo.com 300 000

 So:
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:33:20 GMT by ppp
US $ 170 000 000 000
divided by   500 000
gives 340 000 US $

 dimension ?
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:33:56 GMT by J Fischer
What is the dimension of that figure ?

 dimension
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:34:58 GMT by ppp
340 000 US $ per day per person per million?

 Wow
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:36:15 GMT by J Fischer
that would be a lot of money. Somethings wrong.

 I knew it

Happy April Fools Day Everybody.

"1.07 billion internet users globally by 2005, ..." eTForecasts Sept 2004
this is 1 070 millions?

 Ah,
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:54:40 GMT by J Fischer
I see so he might reach 535 millions per day?

 that's a bargain then
Written on 04/01/05 at 10:56:34 GMT by ppp
he'll do that.

 reach ?
Written on 04/01/05 at 13:35:39 GMT by mbu
Something is not right here,
I checked the reach for Google
.co.uk 20 000
.de 12 000
.fr 10 000
.es 12 000
...
I could go on like this
Same with yahoo.
This may end up higher than possible.

 true

One cannot add Alexa traffic reach like that.
Otherwise if you have 12 sites with a reach of
100 000 out of 1 000 000 each - you would reach
1 200 000 of every 1 000 000.

You have to check the probabilities.

 ?
Written on 04/01/05 at 13:41:30 GMT by ppp
Can you do that?
This is very confusing.

 something like that
Written on 04/01/05 at 13:43:12 GMT by jim
Like that:
  p(google) = 0.2
  p(yahoo) = 0.3
  ~p(google) = 0.8
  ~p(yahoo) = 0.7
  ~p(yahoo)*~p(google) = 0.56
  p(yahoo+google) = 0.44
1 070 000 000 Internet users * p(yahoo+google) ~
  470 000 000 visitors reached per day

 URL?
Written on 04/01/05 at 13:44:26 GMT by mbu
I just checked the news - nothing there yet.
Where does that come from?

 So
Written on 04/01/05 at 13:45:28 GMT by ppp
What does that mean in money?

I try to look at smaller numbers
Written on 04/01/05 at 13:48:36 GMT by jim
170 000 000 000 US$, at 6%  per year is
 10 200 000 000 US$ per year or approx
   280 000 000 US$ per day.
If I divide that by the      470 000 000 visitors reached per day
I need some 60 US cents per visitor per day.

 bargain
Written on 04/01/05 at 14:20:33 GMT by mbu
Not exactly a bargain, but that's what
you need to cover capital costs at 6 %.

 maybe it is less
Written on 04/01/05 at 14:23:02 GMT by jim
Of course if you have that amount of money
and want to use it for the good dead you
may manage to get at least 50 % back from
taxes. Brings us down to 30 cents, and
the dollar isn't the dollar any more...

Since the news feature reprogramming a couple days ago, comments count seems mixed up. Also posting from the blog bookmarklet doesn't update the news front page file. Will fix.

The front page comments count should update now with this post. Before this it said 18 when there were actually 34.
