Sucre city is the capital of Bolivia. Bolivia is named after its liberator Simón Bolivar. The name of the city of La Plata was changed to Sucre in honor of Mariscal Antonio José de Sucre, who along with Bolivar, fought for independence from the Spanish rule. The city of Sucre is also known as the City of Four Names (La Plata, Charcas, Ciudad Blanca (White City), and Sucre). El Salar de Uyuni is a salt desert in southwestern Bolivia. There was once a giant salt water lake, the water vanished and all that remains is the salt, tens of meters thick.
