I'm really bummed about our page rank now with the new URL system. Before I changed all the URLs from cgi-bin/portal to /community/, we were doing really well with the portal at PR5, the site home page at PR5, and most inside pages at a PR4. Even the javascript link pages were 4s!
After doing all that reading, finding all the advice I could, painstakingly translating all the URLs in this part of the site, and changing all links on the whole site to point to the new ones, the page rank of the portal dropped to PR0 (yes, that's zero!), the front page down to PR4, and most of the rest of the site all dropped by at least a point.
What a bummer
Hopefully Google will soon figure out and approve of our new system. You'd think they would, 'cause we still come up tops in lots of search results.

Why I did it

It does seem kind of stupid since we were already doing so good with Google, but I did it so's the other search engines can more easily index all our inside pages, even the deep, dynamic ones. Yes there are other search engines besides Google, believe it or not.
Hopefully the changes made will help in the long run.
still in the Google cache

I just see that the old pages are still in the cache, so it will take some more time - don't worry - Google is not the fastest these days. We should also inform people to update the links.
