About this site's text size Posted on 04/18/06 at 21:33:41 GMT |
Notice to editors: I'm trying to fix the text sizes for this site, starting with editor's side of the directory. Right now it looks semi-okay in IE but there is something wrong in Firefox. So I suggest switching to IE before coming to any conclusions. It's something minor, but I don't have time to fiddle with it anymore at the moment. It's going to be a big job converting all of this site to work well with the newer high resolution preferences, but since they are a majority now, it must be done. Please bear with me.

With FireFox it can be as simple as manually changing the text size via your own browser. However, that doesn't fully work in this particular instance. It works for the actual tree text size but the text for the community panel is still massive, and making that panels' text any smaller would make the tree text teeny. And the links to other sections of SiteLibrary are already teeny. And in IE the text is too small for me, just in case it matters any lol...it's not itty-bitty but one size up would work well (in my opinion again lol). I usually don't edit in IE (unless the site I am reviewing simply doesn't work, in which case I use the IE add-on) but I can use IE until the text using FireFox is corrected. Crystal

You can resize the text in IE using view -> text size . When I finish, it will most all be resizeable in most any browser. This screen resolution really sucks though. What screen resolution do you use Crystal? And what text size do you have set in your display settings on your computer?

1024 X 768 With FireFox, I don't know it's just the default one for the page. Manually decreasing makes part of the portal legible (the actual tree text) but it doesn't help with the other parts (the community panel and the links to other parts of SL). With IE it was the "Medium" one and I changed to the "Larger" setting and it works fine for me now.

For your browser text size, I know exactly what you mean. What about your text size in your computer's display settings - under settings -> advanced , or however it is on yours. I'm curious as to what yours are because I can't get this darned thing to work right on mine. All sites look weird now with the 1024x768 setting. I'm about ready to change it back except I need to iron out the text size differences on all my sites using this ridiculous setting. I know roughly what the thing is about the Firefox vs IE text sizes... I've been working with this CSS stuff for a while now on one of my other sites. I'll fix that later when I'm not so cranky. There's really a lot to it, and no - it's not easier like they said it was going to be when they came out with this technology a few years ago. There is no browser that is quite up to speed with even the basics of it, even though it's been years since it came out.

I don't know to which area you are referring to sorry. I tried Properties/Settings/Advanced and theres nothing there about text size...that is just the settings of my video card. Using just Properties/Settings I can change the resolution level and the color quality level but not text size. I think text size is a program specific thing, not something you change using your OS system?

There's a text size setting in display settings for your screen properties on your computer. On my Windows 98 it's in advanced. I think it is on my Windows 2000 too but I'm not on that one right now so can't check.

On Windows XP it isn't there. All I have are the two I mentioned and in Advanced is technical stuff such as DPI etc, video card stuff, etc.

I think it's the DPI that sets it. I think that because that's what I was reading in these directions .
