What's the status of the Google PageRank update? Did it happen in mid-Jan as forecast?

Yes, I think it did. It was a strange one - the home page of this domain was going up and down for over a week. Darn if it didn't settle back at down right where it was before. Maybe it wasn't even an update but some data center thing. I don't know - haven't checked into it yet. You hear of anything?

Sandbox victim? https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/faq/faq.asp?se=%2B&app%5Fhdr=&faq_id=974&topic_id=1&topic=Domains&return=
Lately, the top search engines, notably Google and Yahoo!, have employed so-called "sandboxing" measures to ensure that no new Web page's ranking is allowed to skyrocket until its links and content have been examined carefully. The sandboxing period, generally a few months, applies to most newly-indexed pages and allows the search engines to ascertain that a page's back links do not originated from a link farm or other form of search engine spamming. The sandboxing concept can be frustrating for Web site owners, but it further increases the importance of link quality in relation to search engine ranking.

Re: Announcing new website AudioWavesPlus.com Posted on 02/09/06 at 09:24:08 GMT |
I think something went wrong with Google's page rank toolbar update or something. The reason I think that is the we were coming back up as a 5 on a few of the data centers, where they had us down to 4 before. Usually when that happens it means a page rank update and that the new number will be the one that it changes to. But in this case, that kept happening for several days, at various data centers, and after it stopped fluctuating we were back down to a 4 again. I find that unusual. Maybe they started to do an update, something went wrong, and they went back to the old setting. But this is all only a guess and only speculations.

Re: Announcing new website AudioWavesPlus.com Posted on 03/14/06 at 23:10:34 GMT |
Over the past two weeks, Google Toolbar pagerank has flip-flopped back and forth from zero to four and back a few times for our website. I thought we were out of the sandbox, but maybe not. Back-links are doing the same thing on Google, one day we have 10-15 backlinks, and then a few days later, zero, then back and forth... What's happening?

I'm not sure what's happening with Google, but this is the second or third time I've seen this same phenomenon in the past few months. The same thing has been happening to our front page here - changing back and forth between 4 and 5 (It used to be a 5 before last PR update a long time ago). Last I looked, it had settled back to a 5. Let's hope it sticks there. Seems like Google keeps getting up the gumption to do a PR toolbar update, and then loses it for some reason. Disconcerting at times I must say.
