Dictionary form and results Posted on 10/17/05 at 22:28:28 GMT |
I just tried that dictionary form. I don't really care for that site the results are from. At the top of the page of results are 3 ads, then there are finally some definitions almost a page down. At the top, the navigation links. One with the link text of "Wikipedia Encyclopedia" but it takes you to encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/adaptation with more ads. Another link labelled, "columbia encyclopedia", which takes you to columbia.thefreedictionary.com/Adaptation Oh, here is the correct link for WikiPedia And I blocked a cookie it tried to set. No surprise there. I just wanted a definition, not a cookie.......

Yes that site's gone downhill a bit since I first ran across it. What would be really neat would be to have something like that running locally, but that would be a lot of words. Maybe I should move that dictionary box to the doo-dads page.

Here's some dictionary code I acquired from Webster's Online Dictionary
code: <center><form action="http://www.websters-online-dictionary.org/search/" method="POST" target="_blank"> <table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="100%"> <tr> <td rowspan="2" width="50%"><p style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0" align="right"><img border="0" src="http://www.websters-online-dictionary.org/coreimages/MISC/webster.gif" width="60" height="70"> </p></td><td valign="center" bgcolor="#000080" style="border-left: 2 solid #000080; border-right: 2 solid #000080; border-top: 2 solid #000080" nowrap><p align="center"><font size="-1" face="Arial" color="white"><b>Webster's Online Dictionary</b><br><font size="-2" face="Arial" color="white"><b>The Rosetta Edition</b></font><font size="1"><b>™</b></font></font></td><td rowspan="2" width="50%"></td></tr><tr><td bgcolor="#E5F6FF" style="border-left: 2 solid #000080; border-right: 2 solid #000080; border-bottom: 2 solid #000080" nowrap><p align="center" style="margin-bottom: 1; margin-top: 4"> <input name="s" size="20"> <INPUT type="submit" value="Search"> </p> <font size="2" color="black"><input type="radio" name="R1" checked value="en"><b>English</b> <input type="radio" name="R1" value="all">Non-English</font></td></tr></table></form></center>

That's highly doubtful. Seems to me the two of you are somewhat on a par.

About two minutes after I posted that message about webster's online dictionary, I went to his site, and noticed he had the dictionary search form in one of his right bar panels.
