Article Category for Perfect Submissions Posted on 10/02/05 at 10:45:56 GMT |
A 5 page thread for perfect submissions is an idea that may need to be altered in the future, if I may be both humble and bold simultaneously. Allow me to start a thread; perhaps it's already been started and I missed it. I've been catching almost all of the newest forum post for the last month approximately. An article category for Perfect Submissions, perhaps? And even another perhaps: how about each new "article" (perfect submission) in that particular article category doesn't show up with the other newest articles on the main page. Instead (perhaps ), there would just be a very visible link to it on the community home page, or some other desired area.

I would have liked to use the articles for the perfect submissions too. But like you mention, I didn't want it showing up amongst the other front page articles. The articles would need to be reprogrammed to get it so that one category would be hidden from front page display. Maybe I should just make a whole new "perfect submissions" plugin! I already had to make a plugin for it to show that little block on the front page just for one thread. Until we figure out just what to do with it, we can always start another thread when that one gets too long. But now that you mention it, the idea of a plugin for this sounds very attractive.

I'm glad to have provided you with a launching point for both inspiration and perspiration!

I propose to start a new thread every fixed interval, maybe every 3 months, with a link to the older threads.

Sounds like a plan. Then we won't need to go changing things too much when there are other things changing a lot right now anyways. I'd still like to make a plugin for it one day, with a cleaner interface and set up for just such a function. It does work pretty as it is set up now through the forums though. I won't mess with it just yet.

Right now we have this set up with a JavaScript that autoposts the perfect submissions from our directory editors page, when we find one. I have to change the number in the JavaScript every time we go to a new thread. I'm planning to let it get to about 10 pages and then make a new thread and change the JavaScript. At that time maybe I'll make another data file to keep track of which thread the JavaScript should post to so that we won't need to change it again every time there is a new thread. The JavaScript is hard-coded right into the Directory Engine's Perl script.
