Ok I may be totally blind...but is there a way for a normal editor to add these?

Same here. I'm not even sure if non-member guests can add them or not. I hope not. There's a plan for the script to add more access options to downloads and links like we have for the forums. We'll have to put that on the top of the list because it's too restrictive the way it is now. Glad you noticed it.
