Colour Scheme Posted on 04/06/06 at 04:00:56 GMT |
I must say that I like the browns that we are now using in the community! However, with the purple up top (and the puple outlines on various parts of the site) it looks a bit odd. Could we consider changing the purples to some other colour? Perhaps a blue or green? It may work with brown, although that may be too much brown? Crystal

Yes I was messing around with it this morning, having a little fun because I was about sick of looking at those other colors. Thing is, I was not using web safe colors at all (they say they are going out?), so when I went in and looked at it on another monitor, it was way different. So still messing with it. Actually I wanted to make the top bar some kind of blue but couldn't find one that looked blue anymore once it got in place. That "purple" there at the moment is actually part of the blue letters in the title. That's what I was using to pick the colors was the shades in the anti-aliasing of the title graphic. So I guess that wasn't a good idea. Was thinking I was overloading the browser with colors and confusing its palette generating calculations, but I don't know. But glad you are liking it! Actually I've been going for a circus look and feel, in case you didn't know that. Still having a hard time achieving it without looking weird. I guess that's what happens when you break all the rules of design and color.

There, I adjusted a few things a little bit, tell me what you think. I still can't find the right color for the top... It's blue, but looks sort of purple can see it from here too on with my monitor settings. So I took off the purple border around it and made it blue to try to change the effect. Plus the green dividers seemed to make it seem more purple, so I changed those to the color from the letter "i" in the title since it seemed to have a contrast that brought out the blue more than the purple. Yes I know..., it still seems purplish. I tried other blues with just a tad less red, but the effect was to give me an instant headache. So here it sets for the day at least. :)

I like the outlines...still not hot on the purpley but I like the rest. The purpley text is fine, next to the browns it looks more bluey. I read that it's best to make the text an opposing color as opposed to a different shade of the same color as it makes the text more visible to the sight impaired or color blind people. What about: 33CCFF - LCA - Light Cyan Azure 51=R 204=G 255=B 80=C 20=M 0=Y 0=K It's a websafe color and one of the complimenting colors is very similar to the tanny-orangey color we are using on the side section headers. There are a bunch of cyan blues & greens that may work as well. VisiBone: Webmaster's Color Laboratory The cyans are in the bottom left hand triangle and the azures (another possiblity) are in the little blocks directly underneath the middle black/middle cirle. An idea to think about at least. Crystal

Cool, glad you like the borders. I think they look better more coordinated this way, too. That's a handy little chart - thanks for the link. You know, our blue in the "L" and "b" in the title is named this on that chart: 333399 DDB Dark Dull Blue Seems strange how fast it turns to purple when you lighten it. Really hard to get anything lighter much at all or it looks absolutely lilac colored. Blues seem to be one of the hardest colors to work with sometimes. The links here are #0000CD , which is a websafe color of one of the named kind, not one off the old 216 chart. It's called mediumblue .
