Ack, we are similar to Skaffe? Well I guess that's good though. Did you see that Bruce Stone, the ex-Spam-Committee Director of GoGuides, has his own new directory now? I have the link and will find and put it up one of these days.
I have seen other search engines finding many more sites related to and linking to SiteLibrary. I don't know why Alexa and Google find so few.
Anyways, here's what I was looking at today from Google:

By the by, how does Alexa track traffic? It was a couple years ago when I first learned of Alexa. I read some of the info there and was under the impression it was done using the Alexa toolbar. I installed the toolbar but it was detected by some of my ad-ware programs ( Spybot Search and Destroy I am almost certain ) and removed. Also cookies from there if I'm not mistaken will be detected as spyware. Anybody have any thoughts or knowledge of the subject?
I should mention, that at the time I had both the Google and Stumbleupon toolbar installed as well, neither of which were seen as spyware.

Interesting. I don't like using the Alexa toolbar because it won't turn on and off properly for me. But from what I've read, that's how they read the rankings - from those who use it. I put the rank graphic on there the other day because I wondered if that might affect the statistics or who visits using the toolbar. It may have been a coincidence, but the rank went down by about 15 percent within days where it had been at the same level for some time before I installed the ranking banner. I continue to keep an eye on it.

It shows an average of some months - 3 I think. I saw the spike when I was looking at the traffic detail on Oct. 3. It was surprising to see it jump that much, looked like right around the same day on the graph - Oct 2.

I'm not sure, but it was interesting looking at the logs. It's been awhile. We had an .htaccess filter to redirect visitors with fake referrers all to a fake page. I did that because my whole logs were filled with referral log spammers, mostly of the illicit type of sites. I took that off the other day because it was filtering one of Crystal's categories. Plus I figured it was probably slowing the site down since the list of redirects and checks for those filtered words was getting so big. I doubt that using it would affect rank, but I could be wrong.
If anything, it probably adds a couple seconds to load time since it has to reach out to an external server.
I use that MagpieRSS: RSS for PHP for the RSS feeds on my site; it has a default timeout of 30 seconds where it will "quit" if it can't connect to the server. I should probably bump that down, or at least doublcheck it to see the number I'm quoting is correct.

I wound up adding a code for caching my xml feeds for that same reason. I couldn't get the timeout code to work in my XML::RSS and ::Parser. Maybe I should look at the code for Magpie again. I have it here. But it's working pretty well now with it caching, except for once per hour. If it's not there at the one hour mark, it slows things down, because that is when mine caches.
I don't know if there is some way of caching the Alexa toy. I don't plan on keeping it on there permanently anyways. I put it there for a test to see whether it would make any difference in the ranking. The apparent results were favorable, but now I don't know if it was a coincidence or not.
