I think we should start with a category similar to his page:
- The URL gives the URL of the page that links to us
- The description starts with a very short description of the site
or page and says then where into SiteLibrary the link goes.
- if possible could also give a date
- If there are more links we could make subcats: search engines,
forums, journals or similar.
This is the equiv of the trackback function of Moveable Type blogs, example Joi Ito Web:

This is a great idea for a category. Would it be good for a top-level category on the Bookmarks Parking Directory?
I think Ian Davis did a nice job of linking back HERE.

I dont know about top-level category on the directory. I think Ian Davis is right by putting a direct link from the home page of the "Internet Alchemy Weblog" at http://internetalchemy.org/ to this page - and this page is a static one (.html).
What we should discuss is the name of this link. Here my first guesses:
LinkBack, xLink, Referers, CrossLink
I can try to collect and describe some for SiteLibrary - and we see then.

Okay that would be good. A small link to the referrer page from sitelibrary.net/ would probably be all right.
This thread would also be good for continued discussion about trackbacks and how they work.

Jim, I found something that would make all incoming hits from links on other sites display on any page holding a tiny little javascript. You can see it here in the portal in the right panel on the main page and at the bottom on the other pages. Is this something like what you had in mind?
We can also make a solid html Links to Us page with all verified referring links on it. Soon there will be a make-a-page feature both here and outside the portal. That will be nice.
Thanks for the idea, it's turning out to be a really great thing.

Okay, I messed with the referrers script some more and found a way to capture the Google search keywords. So now we have lists on all the pages of links that were clicked to get to the page. I figure we can check out those links to see which ones have permanent links, then put those on the referrers page we were talking about.
Later I think it will be possible to make one page showing all the incoming links along with references to which page here they are linking.
It should be a handy way of tracking incoming links.
We should all be able to work on this referrers page, whereever it winds up, along with other group pages that could reside in the same location. More soon on this.

Yes I saw that page. Very nice. It helped me already to find some of those who are linked to us. I used them for testing the script and for populating a little.

I fixed the backlinks page so it shows all referrers to all pages, including the main page. There are filters set on what is displayed now, too. It needs more work on sorting and separating. For now it is sorted only by the page visited. It will be a resource for us to compile a list of referrers for a future static HTML "Links to Us" page.

I made an html page of links to people that link to us, as according to the backlinks results up until tonight. I didn't describe any of the sites yet as Jim suggested. If anybody wants to make site descriptions, then speak up - otherwise people can just figure out what the site is about when they get there.
Also I deleted the backlinks results so as to have a new start and to speed things up a little as it was getting kind of big. I saved the archive for later use. I plan to make a keywords page someday using the results.
