Anyway to make the VIP submissions show up in the new Directory Manager?  Someway to bring it to someones attention that they have VIP submissions waiting...without accidentally stumbling across them?

Well yeah there probably is a way to program something like that in, like a little alert flag or something. For now though, everything is pretty much in the categories. A glance at the New Submissions List page will tell whether there are any. Good idea for a feature add-on though.

Crystal, if I were to make the premium submissions show up, where would you like them to appear?

Right now we aren't using the "NEW" flag in the Submissions Manager so could the "VIP" flag show up where the "NEW" flag was previously?

SIDENOTE: Right now every single editor can process VIP listings....and I'd prefer it if they don't.  Those listings, down the road, are going to be this sites bread-and-butter and I don't really want everyone processing them.  Anyway to make it so only admin (if not only one editor) can process them?

Do you mean to have a little VIP flag show up next to each category, in the main category list? Probably on every subcategory too as you drilled down.

You see, it's not just a matter of replacing an image with another image, it would need to be programmed to do another read on the MySQL database, selecting only those records that have the Premium flag set to yes.

I think it would be more feasible to have just one list of VIP sites, with a link to check it, maybe only if there are any?

It's a possibility, but for now isn't that pretty much what we have is a list that we can check, in the New Submissions List, which puts all the VIP sites at the top.

But I'm thinking about trying to put something in New Submissions Manager for you anyways. How about a list of VIP submissions on the main New Submissions Manager page? Then you wouldn't have to drill down, following little flags, all the way to the subcategory that held the VIP submission?

Yes, I can set them to be visible to any one or any group of persons. I trust that esemji, Magnolia, Norbert, you, and I won't do the wrong things with them, but once there are more editors it will become more important to set them.

The VIP sites, if they are real ones, are actually our bread and butter now, although it may not be a gain that is immediately realized. It is important to get a network of sites linked together, and this is what the VIP listings are set up for in their current state. I am thinking of keeping it that way since it's always good to have a network. It will make a big difference in how much our site is valued by others in the future.

I'm thinking of another system for when we actually do have "bread and butter" in the form of monies coming in for some types of submissions, or for whatever means we might devise to get some income coming in and start paying for some of this stuff we have done for these last 3 years. We haven't really talked about that yet. I'm planning to set up an admin forum so we can have a discussion about that pretty soon here.

By the way, I plan to phase out the admin login altogether eventually. The other login system we are using is much more reliable. It's just a matter of getting it all worked in to the system. Eventually all those admin pages will be renamed, and you will not need to log in separately to use them. Each member of this community has their own settings, which is ideal for setting up different types of access sitewide.

However you deem it to work out for the VIP listings is fine.  Just so long as I don't have to accidentally stumble upon one to see it.

And as for the VIP listings etc....if later on down the line we decide to charge for those (and not require the linkback for them) then only top-level editors (if not one main editor or just admin) should be able to process them.  How many businesses (and once we start charging for anything we become that) do you know that let all their staff/interns/volunteers deal with the moneystream?
