Editor Usernames Posted on 04/21/05 at 21:16:50 GMT |
I noticed that if the editor username is longer than 3 characters, it is searchable when entered in the "last edited by" field. This could be a handy feature for the future when we might tie our works to our profiles. So therefore I started using bantychick again as my username instead of Jos as I was doing before I found that out.

So if I were to search for "beds" every submission made by that editor is going to come up regardless of whether or not it is even about beds? Sorry but that is a really bad thing and it means search results will make absolutely no sense to the end user. If it was searchable only from our profile that would be a great thing but searchable from the main directory box is not good.

I'm talking about the editor side search. I have an option to make fields searchable or not. They need at least 4 characters though.

Well that's good then. SIDENOTE: It would be an idea to make the description searchable. This would leave the keywords block free for different keywords that normally would get cut off. Just an idea though.

The description is searchable I believe.

I was under the assumption it was the title, url, and keywords only. If this now includes the description that's great.

I thought it did, but maybe wrong. I'll check later.

I have it now so it automatically sets the "last edited by" field with the editor name prefixed by an underscore, for example mine is _jos . This serves two purposes - 1: I don't have to change my 3 letter username to make it searchable, and 2: all editor names, when prefixed by an underscore like that, would most always be unique. Maybe there is a better way but it hasn't come to mind yet. You see, later on I want to be able to make some charts and contests like they do at other places to make it more fun.
