Okay since we're using so many of them already, let's just stick with the ampersands in cat titles if other parallel ones already have them. I'll fix the URL problem.

So did you want me to fix any "and"'s I come across? Or just leave what we have in place and start using the "&"'s only?

I guess, yeah, since we have so many already and they look so nice, I should just focus on trying to fix the URLs. Otherwise we can just live with the funky URLs until it's fixed. Let's still try to avoid apostrophes and commas though where possible and keep to one phrase if we can. You wouldn't believe all what's involved/affected by trying to change that silly thing.

I think I've only every used a comma in one cat. And there isn't really any other way to eliminate it or else I'd be leaving oout one component of very related things. (Swimming Pools, Spas, and Hot Tubs) I can eliminate one comma but not them both unless you want: Swimming Pools and Spas and Hot Tubs? lol To separate out one of those would put a whole whack load of sites up a level because there aren't too many that offer just one or the other but not both. (chemicals can be used in both hot tubs and pools, skimmers can clean both, hot tubs go into spas). And to put one underneath the other would be basically burying it because they aren't the same, they are just really related. Off-topic I know. And would that be yes to fix the ones I come across or yes to leave them as they are and just start using the & again?

If we already have other &'s that have been long in place in a parallel area like a sibling subcategory in the same parent, maybe we should use the &s. I noticed today that the higher up cats have "and", so maybe we should stick to that in any new work, otherwise.

This I have handled in Home like: Garden and Landscape Buildings and Structures Bathing

But they aren't buildings or structures. And I really don't think anyone uses any of these things for bathing purposes, no offence or anything. (And that is what people will assume...that they are for bath houses or something along those lines) What about naming it just "Swimming Pools and Spas" instead? I can leave out the hot tub.

And regarding your post on "&" vs. "and"... Do we really have the time right now to go and research how other sub-cats are named in the parent cat, to decide which version of "and" to use? Because I know I don't. I think we need to pick one version and stick with it. If we keep switching back and forth it's just creating work for us down the line when we do get this fixed, don't you think? Crystal

Up to now it looks to me like we've been using "_and_" , at least in the higher level categories. Swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs are all structures. I used the word "bathing" because it was the only water word I could think of in one word. Just an idea. Maybe you can think of a better word for water-containing structures.

Why do we have to have only one word cat names? To make it so we can only have one word cat names will make us think up odd titles that most end-users will not think to look under to find what they want. Crystal

Of course we don't "have" to. I was just saying that was why I chose the word "bathing". I put some thought into it before coming up with that word. Just because I prefer one word cat titles when I can think of one doesn't mean anybody else would prefer the same thing. My Bathing Structures category was just an example, food for thought.
