Linux Category Editor Recruiting Posted on 10/03/05 at 14:26:32 GMT |
I know I've brought up adding Linux categories once before. I wouldn't be interested in being the editor for a Linux category, as I don't feel qualified since I've only been using Linux for a short time. What I wanted to do is invite you to the Minimal Linux/ttylinux Forums and post a "recruitment ad" for editors in the off-topic forum. It's not too heavily trafficked there yet, but you might get lucky at some point in the near to far future. Mention my name so the two guys who own the site won't get confused.

This is a good idea to get some more people interested in the directory. The Linux category would be created in the Computers branch of the directory tree, or maybe some of it in the Internet branch. Norbert is in charge of both of those categories. What do you think of this idea of recruiting editors for Linux, Norbert?

I think we are still waiting to hear back from Norbert on this topic as he is the main editor for both the Computers and Internet categories. He can be an infrequent visitor to the community so please be patient I personally like the idea...granted they are willing to be trained according to our guidelines, etc.

No problem. The day I submitted Mental Dimensions, I also submitted Minimal Linux and my *nix project at sourceforge, condiskcat, using the "suggest new category field." So as person who submitted two urls, I must say that I'm a little put off about not getting responses back, and may go back to DMOZ for all my submitting needs.

LOL you may have a ways to wait. Norbert might still have sites back to July in his queue. I was the only one caught up until I got back into my WebAPP programming the other night. Now I have no idea how many I have. Probably a hundred again. We're fixing to release WebAPP 0.9.9.3 pretty soon here. I'm really looking forward to the upgrade for this site.

Update: I was wrong. Norbert's caught up a lot and is really gaining on me. But I was right about my sites. Now I have 50 in my own cats and 54 in the Business cat. The editor of Business doesn't have much free time, so I try to keep up with those too.

And we all know I will never be caught up unless I spend 20 hours on here a day for three weeks straight lol.

Everybody chip in, we'll send 500 pounds of coffee beans Crystal'Z way. She says she needs a few extra hours a day.

You don't want to be like me? Heck, what better is there to do in life?

Good idea. Maybe we should send it already ground so CrystalZ won't have to take time off to grind it. Or is there catered coffee maybe? I'm getting about due to do a few hard core shifts again here too. Those submissions really build up fast if you leave them be for any length of time.

I'm going to have to work on being more tolerant of other cultures. I said, "500 pounds of coffee beans..." I meant pounds as a weight, not as 500 ... I don't know how to make the symbol for it.... the monetary thingie... I have to learn to be more sensitive. I'm kidding around. I know I was clear enough.

I run a catering business on the side, but since I'm mentally ill, typically no one wants to allow me to prepare food for them selves or their loved ones. Thanks for adding that Linux link by the way; I got a confirmation email about the addition.

I'm new to the directory but easily trainable If you would like me to work in the Linux cat instead of the areas I initially selected, I'd be happy to. I am not a superuser but I do use Linux a bit and lurk in different forums just for info. I probably know just enough to be dangerous Let me know, I'll work where needed.
