Category Editor - Include on Pages Posted on 09/27/05 at 13:03:22 GMT |
Esemji and I were discussing how it would be nice to have our editor names on our categories we edit. We were trying to think of the best way to phrase the credit. So far we have thought of 'Edited by', 'Category editor', and 'Topic editor'. We were wondering - does anybody have any ideas of what they would like to see there? Or do you like any of these we have? Later we will have a feature where this will be automatically entered on the pages, in any location we decide. But for now we will be simply putting it in with the Category description. The description has a 255 character limit, so whatever we come up with should be fairly short.

If there is a limit, I think we must go for 'Editor’ only, and can save 4/5 characters for description.

I like that idea a lot...in the long run probably not best to be placed directly in the description but for now that is fine with me. However, I'm assuming we are adding that for the editors that only have one or two sections? I'm not going to have to edit hundreds of sub-cats to put "Edited by: CrystalZ" (or whatever is decided upon) in the description am I?

LOL no that wouldn't be too good. I guess we could put it on our main cats. It's a good guide for people anyways. But only if we want it on there - it's not essential for now. After it is automatic we probably will have to settle for having it on there someplace.

The good example would be www.websavvy.cc.

Hey, my first post here! Taa-daaa! I like the idea of having the editor name posted at least in the higher level topics. This is a nice recognition for newer editors. I'm with Crystalz - it would be painful to add the same editor's name to every sub-topic there is, for those who have full access. However, particularly for newer editors, I think we like to see our names in print So it might be useful to add the new editor's name to topics for a certain amount of time - say, the first 6 months? or for their first 5 categories, for examples. Just a thought. Cheers! Cheri

Right now in Regional/Countries/I/India and Travel/Destiantions/Asia/India I have "This category (and sub-categories) are edited by Esemji." and in Recreation/Games/Computers and Video I have "This category (and sub-categories) are edited by dariencross2005." I will add my name to the top-levels of the cats I edit.

Do you guys (girls) want me to just add it to the script so it will be there automatically? And Welcome Writergirrl! Happy to see you here.

No because in some categories there isn't enough space (there is already a category description in place) so it will need to be tweaked in order to fit. If there is someway to add it to the actual page somewhere that would be good.

Sure, it can appear anyplace we might choose.

LOL thank you for unnaming them. I am stressed out enough today already with pet and child paperwork-type stuff to have to think about those "unnamed".

Maybe the top right hand side underneath Bookmarks/Community/Submit a Site title bar? Like on the same line as Directory/whatever cat? Or perhaps the line above it on the right hand side?

Anywhere except the bottom I like the idea of placing "edited by: blah blah " on the upper right section of the page, just above the line that separates the category name and the listings. And I would rather NOT have that listing be linked to my email. I do not like getting emails about people's submittals. Just my preference ...

How about linking them to our profiles here in the Community area?
