The Perfect Submission (the private thread) Posted on 04/20/05 at 18:50:10 GMT |
Ok it's happened...someone has actually submitted the perfect submission. No editting at all was needed...the title was correct, the description was great, the url even had the / on it! Rate That Commentary Comprehensive DVD and laserdisc commentary track database, as well as user ratings and reviews of commentaries. Keywords: dvd, laserdisc, commentary, review, commentary track, movie, rating http://www.ratethatcommentary.com/ SIDENOTE: I have noticed since you posted those submission notes that most of the submissions have gotten better...still useless (they still use promotional words) but at least they aren't so horrible they don't make any sense.

Oops it has the word "your" in there. Better get that out of it. The rest was so good I almost missed that.

I've left "your" in the description before, just depends on the context and how it looks overall. If it sounds/looks too promotional then I replace it/reword it. I personally wouldn't worry about removing it from this description as the term isn't really used in a promotional way. If any words need to be changed its "at all marketing budget levels"...one could assume it's everywhere from free services to billion dollar budgets then Not saying to change it from that though, just that "your" isn't near as promotional as those words.

The main reason I like to avoid the word "your" is because it is one of the few ways in which I was trying to conform to the other directories. Sometimes I think of my work here being reviewed elsewhere. Probably not a top priority concern.

I got one that I find perfect: http://www.innovasafe.com/ InnovaSafe, Inc. Technology protection services, including source code and software escrow, intellectual property and technology escrow, SEC compliance title 17 protection, technical verification services. Keywords: software escrow, technology escrow, source code escrow, Category: Computers/Software/Programming/ Suggested Category: Escrow Services (under Software) Name: Rick Archer We could rename this thread to "Hall of Fame" (or run a new thread with an extra "thank you" to those submitter).

That's a great idea. I've been getting a few more and more once I got up to about the end of July with my submissions list. Sometimes I run across 3 or so in one day! Every time I feel like giving them some kind of award. But then I think about it and the point is that it saves time if I don't have to edit their submission. So it would sort of defeat the purpose to make out an award every time somebody did a correct submission. With 3 or less a day, it wouldn't be much of course, but once more people started catching on it could become quite time consuming. Wouldn't take long to paste the good ones in a thread though.

Well, we do not want that the editors start flooding the forum with submissions . So I'll modify my proposal: every editor may maximum post one per week with an outstanding submission. Naming the submitter first (as it's primarily the submission, not the site itself). Minimum is that the submission is correct, among the correct ones the editor may choose based on wording, or other criteria. ?

Sounds like fun. Maybe I'll start pasting a private text file with all the ones I get that are basically correct, so as to have a base to pick the best one each week. I love this idea. Also it brings to mind that there is a web awards mod that is designed to work with this portal system we are using. Have yet to test it out. But that's another subject. On the other hand, maybe it is not another subject in that perhaps the web awards mod could be used as a submissions awards mod. Then SEOs could get awards to post on their sites to help promote their skills. I would assume that posting submissions to web directories according to the guidelines would be in their skills repertoire.

We could just paste them in like this, it would be easy: Lawsuit Cash Advance, Inc. Established Minneapolis-based specialty finance company that provides pre-settlement lawsuit cash advances to personal injury accident victims. http://www.lawsuitcashadvance.com/ Jul 10, 2005 Keywords: lawsuit loans, lawsuit financing, lawsuit funding, lawsuit cash advances, lawsuit advances, personal injury cash advances, personal injury lawsuit cash advances, pre-settlement cash advances Category: Business/Services/Consumer Financial/Credit/ Suggested Category: N/A Name: Michael Merten It would be a nice way of giving the ones that do a correct submission an extra listing. But I'm not sure how much extra work it might wind up being in the long run.
