Add URL Submit Page Posted on 03/25/05 at 20:36:50 GMT |
I got tired of editing almost every site before approving (In my categories, since the beginning, I've gotten one perfect and two or three with one or few characters to change), so I revamped the submit page to include a few brief guidelines under each entry space. Maybe this will help and maybe not. Check it out and let me know what you think. Here's an Example (Submits to Dictionaries). Also notice the neat little script I found to limit the characters - just try to add more than 255 characters to description or keywords.

SWEET! lol That is awesome Jos! Now another thought...if we come across seriously retarded submissions where they don't even try to even come close to the guidelines what's stopping us from flat out rejecting the submission? "Please reread guidelines and try again." or even better "You chose to not follow simple guidelines so we chose not to allow your site." lol

Thanks I just deleted the last two sites that came in without even looking at them because they were obvious spammy sites, and they had every word capitalized in all fields, no trail slash, ... - Almost like they ignored the new notes on purpose. I think you're onto something there. One of those phrases would be perfect to paste into the notes we keep in the rejection letter. Something like that about covers it all. Probably the first note would be the more appropriate of the two, huh? Then when we're too busy we could just delete them if they look that bad, or else look at them if we do feel like it at the moment.

"If it gets to busy"....darlin expect it to be like this for the rest of the directory's life (and only expect it to get busier). The only reason you don't expect this level is becase at JoeAnt we never dealt with public submissions, only other editors. Where I am now they have sites that have been waiting for over a year. And there are a number of active editors over there working on those lists right now. They get hundreds of new site submissions PER DAY. Think of it this way...it's free to get listed so we are under no obligation to list them nor are we under any sort of a timeline to look over the site. It may also be an idea to limit foreign language submissions for now. For instance "We are only accepting submissions of sites in English, French, Spanish, German, Dutch, (and whatever languages Norbert speaks)." The reason I say these languages is because we are all pretty much fluent in English and decent online translators exist for the other languages...whereas the ones for Chinese, etc are much more sketchy and don't work so well. This also eliminates the Romanian language sites I keep getting (I would have to pay to translate them because no online translator exists for Romanian).

Don't forget I worked at ODP for a year and a half. Same with GoGuides. They were pretty busy too.

Well they can't read Time for red bold on some of the phrases in those notes because the new submissions are not improving much for the past couple of days, despite the new context help notes. One new submission was about perfectly correct though, so that's a big step in the right direction! I'm tempted to put - if you want to avoid ticking off our editors and make less work for them, please follow these notes. Otherwise your submission might be deleted without review, depending on the mood of the reviewing editor.

Ok now you're sounding like me lol. How about "We reserve the right to decline any submission that does not follow these guidelines."

Awesome! I can't think of anybody better. Mossad, do you want us to post the Romanian sites in our Translation Requests thread (private for editos) or just sign you up as Editor for the Romania category where you'd probably get most of them submitted anyways.
