Mission:
To maintain a community built on trust and respect, with a goal of building a high-quality, user-friendly, and unique system of indexing websites on the internet.
Background:
SiteLibrary was created in November, 2002, in response to a perceived need for a new directory that held due respect and credit for the editors and others that helped with additions, improvements, and ideas. The founding concept was that it is possible to have both quality directory content and an environment where each member of the contributing community is considered as part of the whole.
The main three contributors to SiteLibrary's beginnings were Jos, Crystal, and Norbert.
Jos began her directory editing career at Open Directory Project (dmoz.org) in 2001. She contributed there for about a year and a half. She has since edited at Open Encyclopedia, GoGuides, and Joe Ant and held memberships at Zeal and OneMission. She is currently living in Washington state, USA. Along with managing the SiteLibrary site, Jos is actively involved in Web-APP Web Automated Perl Portal community at web-app.org. She was previously a small business owner in the Land Surveying field and holds honors Associates degrees in both Business and Business Management.
Crystal started editing back in 1999 at the original Go.com (now defunct). Since Disney shut down their directory she has edited at Wherewithal.com (now Xoron.com), Hotrate, and GoGuides. She currently lives in Canada, and has graduated from college as an Early Childhood Educator.
Norbert has been involved with computers and programming since the 1970s and has been active on the internet since the mid '80s. He has edited and/or held memberships at various other web directories. He has lived in several European countries and in Texas, USA. He currently resides in Belgium, Europe. Norbert speaks fluently both German and English and reads in several languages. His university studies have included mathematics, formal logic, statistics, and data processing. He took his first formal programming position while still in college.
Others making major contributions towards getting everything set up and running back in 2003 include Jockel, Pascal, Gilles, Jim, Julia, and Ferenz. Their advices in making the place more user-friendly and other contributions during SiteLibrary's early years are much appreciated. SiteLibrary would have never become what it is now without the early ideas, input, and involvement of this creative and brilliant group.
